ABOUT IAIR

Our History

The International Association of Insurance Receivers was incorporated under the laws of the State of Delaware as the International Society of Insurance Receivers.

The Association was founded in 1991 in order to provide individuals who were involved with insurance receiverships an organization through which they could receive education, exchange information, and enhance the standards followed by those who work in this professional area.

Our Mission

To serve as a resource and promote best practices for the resolution of troubled insurance companies and enhance expertise among the community.

Continuing Education

IAIR offers training and current insolvency information to members and industry professionals. IAIR offers Roundtable programs in conjunction with NAIC meetings and provides opportunities for an exchange of ideas and information among insurance insolvency professionals.

In addition, IAIR promotes special education programs co-sponsored with NOLHGA or NCIGF and hosts a two-day annual Insolvency Workshop. In recent years, topics included workers’ compensation and unauthorized insurance companies.

IAIR also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Insurance Receiver, which provides members with current information on technical insolvency issues.

IAIR's International Committee addresses issues outside of the US and holds regular training meetings in London each year. Topics addressed include issues specific to the UK, other national developments and their effects on the internmational community.

IAIR's CIR and AIR Designation Program

To ensure that high standards are met in the appointments of Liquidators, Special Deputy Receivers or the equivalent, IAIR offers two designations to qualified members: Certified Insurance Receiver (CIR) and Accredited Insurance Receiver (AIR).

IAIR's CIR designation is intended for those members who have experience and expertise in the overall control of the day-to-day operations of a multi-state insolvency.

IAIR's AIR designation is for those members who work in the receivership office or as a consultant on a limited aspect of an insurance insolvency. To date, 50 members have obtained these designations, which include a Continuing Education requirement of 40 hours every 2 years.

Current Issues

As IAIR identifies emerging issues, the Board establishes a working group to study the environment and presents a white paper, when approprite, which is promulgated to interested parties. The most recent working group addressed the issues arising in HMO Insolvencies.
